About The Dowd YMCA

The Dowd YMCA offers an incomparable experience! Rooted in a long history of community service, the Dowd YMCA also offers the best in health and fitness. From the outside, the Dowd YMCA is the same seven-story local landmark that has been part of Charlotte since the early 1960’s, but inside is more than you expect!  

The Dowd YMCA is home to a 5,000 sq. ft. Hammer Strength Free Weight Center, seven racquet courts and two indoor pools – one warm pool and one cool – as well as three gymnasiums with an indoor track, a cycle studio, a cardio theater and two floors of great fitness equipment!

Rounding out the experience, the Dowd YMCA offers a nurse-staffed CMC Health Center, Fit Central Personal Training, ProHands Massage, the YMCA Pro Shop, King’s Cleaners and the Fitness Bar, our on site restaurant. Add in Community Outreach, social connection and volunteer opportunities and the Dowd YMCA experience is second to none - Spirit, mind and body!

The Dowd YMCA is partnered with some of our closer YMCA of Greater Charlotte branches to offer you more with Center City memberships! Childress Klein YMCA, Dowd YMCA, Gateway Village YMCA and Stratford Richardson YMCA all offer a different perspective on the Y, giving you more options without sacrificing the YMCA experience! You can use this special kind of membership to take advantage of all the different options each of our branches offer, from Aquatics to social opportunities to Group Exercise class availability or anything in between!
