Theatre Charlotte, formerly known as The Little Theatre, is Charlotte’s community theatre, a unique local attraction and has been “creating drama since 1927.” Theatre Charlotte’s mission is to create outstanding theatre opportunities relevant to the people of the Charlotte region. To fulfill this goal, theatre Charlotte presents a Main Stage series and a “second stage” series known as Stage 501.
The productions in our Main Stage series are selected for their broad-based community appeal. These include a mix of musicals, comedies and dramas. Stage 501 is dedicated to presenting works by classic contemporary writers, such as Beckett, Pinter and Albee, and writers from diverse ethnic backgrounds. This series also showcases the original work of our writers group, Playwrights in Progress, a group of 13 area playwrights. Stage 501 showcases the talents of emerging directors and actors, as well as offering diverse opportunities for volunteers.
Theatre Charlotte is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, with a volunteer board of directors and a paid staff of 3 full-time employees and 1 part-time employee. Through our Main Stage and Stage 501 series, Theatre Charlotte provides many volunteer opportunities for performers, backstage workers and ushers, while guest directors, designers, music directors, choreographers and musicians are hired on a per show basis.
Auditions for Theatre Charlotte productions are open to anyone in the Charlotte region. As the oldest continuously producing community theatre in North Carolina, Theatre Charlotte is proud of its heritage and its long-time tradition of production excellence.
