Oh brother! Sibling mischief, boisterous birthday parties, playground adventures … Peter Hatcher’s life sure seems complicated for a nine-year-old. One of his biggest problems is dealing with his impossible little brother Fudge, especially keeping his beloved pet turtle Dribble out of Fudge’s hands … or worse! Based on the best-selling book by perennial favorite author Judy Blume, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing is a hilarious portrait of family life guaranteed to entertain moms, dads, brothers, sisters and pet turtles alike. Well, maybe not the turtles…

This Grey Seal Puppets production uses playful puppetry and a cast of animal characters to give a whole new dimension to Hans Christian Andersen’s classic story. The Emperor just happens to be a pig; the crafty tailors are foxes; the prime minister a near-sighted camel; and the councilor, a befuddled old walrus. Even the audience takes part, as animals, of course! Don’t miss this fanciful take on a beloved fable, where we learn the dangers of vanity and the rewards of being brave and honest.

Nationally recognized for the breadth and strength of our programs, the Theatre serves over 360,000 children and families a year with technically imaginative productions and wide-ranging education programs for ages 3-18.
Each year we mount 15 professional adult productions for young people, with the curtain rising over 600 times during a season – that’s more than any other theatre company in the state. The Charlotte Observer’s Theatre Critic called Children’s Theatre of Charlotte “the city’s leading professional troupe,” and each season our actors, designers and directors receive numerous awards for their work on the stage. Another critic called our work “the most technically imaginative and resourceful theatre productions in the region.” It’s Broadway caliber theatre, the best in the region.
The Theatre is also home to a fully professional touring company, the Tarradiddle Players, which has traveled across North Carolina and into South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and West Virginia. One of the most respected and sought after touring arts groups in the country, the Tarradiddle Players have performed for well over 1,200,000 people. They are also one of the Southeast’s few true repertory companies, capable of performing multiple productions in the same day.
As strong as our productions are, they are matched by an extraordinary range of Education programs. Each year the Theatre enrolls over 2,300 young people in Enrichment classes and summer camps, teaching confidence and self-esteem while encouraging creativity and self-expression. Programs are designed to build on these experiences, so that preschool students who desire it may one day find themselves performing as an adult in a MainStage production. And many have!
Children’s Theatre also offers programs in every grade of the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system, from residencies that enhance core curriculum using drama techniques, to productions and workshops addressing alcohol and substance abuse prevention.
The Theatre is also proud of its Community Involvement Program, which encourages participation among non-traditional audiences in the region, and its volunteer auxiliary, ENCORE!, which at over 300 members, and growing, is one of the largest and most active in the region.
Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s home is ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center, an amazing collaborative venture between the Theatre and the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County. It’s an amazing place for families – a really cool children’s library, plus two incredible theatre spaces for our productions, classrooms, computer labs, a Teen Loft and a lot more.
Children's Theatre of Charlotte has created a special place for itself on the cultural and educational landscape of the region. Unique nationally in offering such strong performance, touring, and education programs, CTC is transforming the way people experience children’s theatre.
